Welcome Amy Miller, New Kilmer Middle School Principal
Dear Kilmer Middle School Community:
The Region 2 Office is pleased to announce that Ms. Amy Miller, current principal of Saratoga Elementary, has been named the new principal of Kilmer Middle School. Her official start date will be February 10, 2020.
Ms. Miller has been the principal at Saratoga Elementary since 2015 where she was named FCPS New Principal of the Year in 2018. Prior to being named principal at Saratoga, Ms. Miller served as the assistant principal of Belvedere Elementary for three years.
Ms. Miller is an instructional leader who is passionate about developing a collaborative school culture focused on the collective responsibility of students. She believes in collaborating with all stakeholders as a way to implement Portrait of a Graduate Presentations of Learning, with a focus on authentic problem-based learning experiences and student reflection. She also believes strongly in being visible, accessible, and getting to know students and staff as individuals, and she prioritizes being present and responsive to all; a positive school culture is one of her non-negotiables. Ms. Miller values innovation and learning from each other in an effort to encourage both students and staff to be life-long learners. She also understands that schools are not only responsible for teaching academics, but that they also are responsible for creating healthy, resilient, caring global citizens.
Ms. Miller brings many years of experience and knowledge in the areas of team leadership development, distributive leadership, staff professional development, ELL program support, and support for students with disabilities. Amy has a wealth of experience in getting academic results in schools by raising the academic bar for all students. Ms. Miller believes strongly in transparency, effective communication, and building partnerships; she understands the importance of building consensus across multiple levels in order to achieve school-wide and district-wide goals. Ms. Amy Miller’s excellent communication skills and her inclusive approach will be assets to the Kilmer community.
Ms. Miller holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Boston University as well as a Master of Arts degree in Reading Education. Ms. Miller received her administrative endorsement in School Administration from the University of Virginia.
