The Kilmer Symphonic Orchestra was selected to perform the national anthem for the Fairfax County School Board meeting on Thursday, February 21. Symphonic Orchestra was chosen from a list of school music ensembles from across the county for this performance. Students began preparing “The Star-Spangled Banner” in November in anticipation of this event, which was broadcast on FCPS TV and live on the internet.

While at the meeting, the students had a chance to meet and take a photo with someone they admire, Board Member Ryan McElveen, a Kilmer Orchestra alumni, who is known around the county both for his work on the School Board, and for announcing school closures and cancellations on his popular twitter feed. They also had the chance to see how the business of running the school system is conducted. The Kilmer Symphonic Orchestra is grateful for the warm reception they received at the meeting and glad to have had this wonderful performance opportunity.
