Cell Phones

As a reminder, Kilmer is in the “control group” that will not use cell phone storage pouches. Our focus is on consistently implementing the current cell phone policy with fidelity. At Kilmer, that means from 7:30am to 2:15pm, cell phones and devices (including tablets and Airpods) must be off and away in backpacks (not pockets). Smart watches may be worn, but the phone, messaging, and internet viewing features must be off (in airplane mode). 

All middle schools will follow the same guidance and collect the phone if a student is not adhering to the “off and away” expectation during the school day:

Student picks up phone in the front office at the end of the day.

A warning is logged into SIS and parent/caregiver is notified by email.

A parent/caregiver will be called to pick up the phone.

Phone privileges at school are lost for 20 school days and logged into SIS.

Parent/caregiver is notified by email that student will check phone into the front office each morning.
